Finding Your Place in the Community

Getting out and feeling connected is not always easy. Maybe you have been indoors for a while. Maybe you have lost touch with friends. Maybe you just do not know where to start.

That is where community connection and participation come in.

We help you find your feet in the Northern Rivers community. Whether that means joining an activity, visiting a friend, or simply getting out for a coffee. Small steps. At your pace.

What Community Participation Means

Community participation is about belonging. It is about being seen, heard, and included.

For people with psychosocial challenges or daily living needs, getting out into the community can feel overwhelming.

We understand that. We do not push. We gently walk beside you.

Here is what community connection can look like with our support:

  • Going to a local café or library
  • Attending a hobby group or class
  • Visiting a friend or family member
  • Joining a community event or market
  • Simply sitting in a park on a quiet day

No pressure to socialise. No expectations, just gentle encouragement.

Why Community Connection Matters

Being connected to others isn’t just about doing the right thing; being connected is an essential element of happiness.

People who connect with their communities have better mental health outcomes than those who don’t. They also tend to be more independent as they know there is help available when needed. Ultimately, people will find a new purpose in life. Being alone can make life hard; being connected can make life easier.

We are based in Ballina and travel extensively throughout the Northern Rivers area, including Tweed Heads to Lismore. We love this area and know the community well.

For NDIS Participants

Your funding under the NDIS will possibly cover community participation funding packages for you. It would be great for us to discuss the options for you.

Support coordination and support work are services provided by our organisation to help people become more involved in their community and participate in meaningful activities. In fact, we have fully insured cars to assist with safe and reliable transportation.

For People Without an NDIS Plan

You do not need an NDIS plan to start connecting with your community. We can offer guidance, company, and practical help on a private basis.

Reach out for a quiet conversation about what might work for you.

For Agencies and Housing Providers

Many of the people you support may find it difficult to leave their home or engage with their community. Isolation can contribute to tenancy issues, poorer mental health, and increased hospital admissions.

NRSC provides dependable and compassionate support that helps people stay connected with their community, build confidence, and improve their overall wellbeing. We welcome referrals from agencies and housing providers at any time.

A Gentle Approach

We understand that every person moves at their own pace. There is never any pressure to participate before you are ready. Whether you would like to quietly observe, have a conversation, or gradually become involved in activities, we will support you every step of the way.

Our focus is on helping people build confidence, develop meaningful connections, and participate in their community in a way that feels comfortable and right for them.

Small steps can make a big difference.

Why Choose NRSC for Community Connection

We are a small, local NDIS provider based in Ballina. We are not a big organisation. That means we can be flexible, patient, and truly individualised.

We specialise in psychosocial recovery coaching and support work for people with mental health challenges. We understand anxiety, depression, trauma, and the fear of being in public.

We will never rush you. We will never embarrass you. We will simply walk beside you until you feel ready.

Let's Take the First Step

You do not need to commit to a big group activity. You do not need to pretend to be okay.

Start small. A short walk. A quiet coffee. Just us and you.

Reach out when you are ready.
