Building the Skills for Everyday Life

Some things feel simple to other people. Catching a bus. Cooking a meal. Paying a bill. Making a phone call.

Living with psychosocial challenges can make everyday tasks feel overwhelming. Even the smallest activities can seem difficult, and what others take for granted may require significant effort.

That is where Development of Daily Living and Life Skills comes in.

We help you build the skills you need for everyday life—gently, at your own pace. There is no pressure and no judgement, just compassionate support from someone who will walk alongside you every step of the way.

What Daily Living Skills Look Like

Everyone is unique. Hence, we first listen before crafting an approach.

Below are some examples of skills we can assist with:

  • Meal preparation and cooking – from light snacks to complete meals
  • Household chores – from washing clothes to cleaning the house
  • Budgeting and financial management – bill payments, savings, and expense awareness
  • Shopping – planning the list, budgeting, and buying essentials
  • Public transport – route planning and using public transport modes like buses and trains
  • Phone communication – appointment scheduling and enquiries
  • Medication management – scheduling, administration, and medication education
  • Personal hygiene – creating suitable personal grooming procedures

There is no such thing as a trivial skill. Every skill you value counts.

For People with Psychosocial Challenges

Our specialty is helping individuals with both psychosocial challenges and mental health issues. Energy fluctuates. Motivation ebbs and flows. Some days, getting out of bed can feel like the only success you achieve.

This is acceptable. We are aware that learning does not happen all at once.

We take one step at a time into minuscule increments. One thing at a time. Today, we may simply examine the bus schedule. Tomorrow we may walk to the bus stop. The next week, we may go for a short ride.

For NDIS Participants

If you have an NDIS plan, development of daily living and life skills is typically funded under Capacity Building supports. This is often called CB Daily Activity or Improved Daily Living.

We can assist you with your budgeting and how best to make use of it. We do support coordination and support work that centers around the development of actual life skills.

We are located in Ballina, operating in the Northern Rivers region between Tweed Heads and Lismore.

For People Without an NDIS Plan

You do not need an NDIS plan to start building life skills. We can work with you on a private basis. A few hours a week. A short course of support. Whatever feels right.

Just reach out for a quiet conversation.

For Agencies and Housing Providers

Your clients may be experiencing difficulties performing everyday tasks. This can lead to tenancy issues, declining health, and increased hospitalisation.

NRSC provides quality support services that help people develop the skills and confidence needed to live safely, independently, and securely in their own homes. We welcome referrals from agencies and housing providers at any time.

A Gentle, Practical Approach

We do not sit in an office and give advice. We come to your home. We roll up our sleeves. We cook with you, clean with you, and practice phone calls with you.

We believe in learning by doing. And we believe in patience.

If you forget something we practiced last week, that is fine. We will practice again. No shame. No disappointment. Just another chance to try.

Why Choose NRSC for Life Skills Development

We are a small, local NDIS provider based in Ballina. We are not a big organisation with rigid rules. That means we can be flexible, patient, and truly individualised.

We specialise in psychosocial support, support coordination, and psychosocial recovery coaching. We understand mental health challenges in a way that only comes from experience.

We will never rush you. We will never embarrass you. We will simply walk beside you while you learn.

Let's Start Small

You do not need to learn everything at once. Pick one thing. One small skill that would make your day a little easier.

We will start there. Together.
